Adobe Contribute Software

For our Customers that regularly update their website, we often set them up with Adobe Contribute Software. This program is an affordable alternative for non-developers that need the ability to update their pages regularly.

Contribute works like a combination of Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer, with an Edit button. Users proficient in word processing software such as Microsoft Word should have no problems editing basic website content and photos using Contribute.

Download and Install the Software

Download Adobe Contribute from here: http://www.adobe.com/products/contribute/. Contribute comes with a 30-day free trial, and costs around $200 (at the time we wrote this article). CWS assumes your computer meets the requirements needed to run Contribute Software. These requirements are listed on Adobe's website.

We recommend you wait to install the software until you receive the Contribute Key from us, because your 30-day free trial starts when you install the software. You will probably not be able to use the software without the key we provide.

Installing the Key

When you receive the key, install the Contribute software. Save the key we send you to your computer (you'll need to remember where you save the key to install it). With Contribute open (and minimized if needed), double-click on the Contribute Key you saved to your computer. You'll be prompted for the Key password, which was sent to you with the Contribute Key. You'll only have to enter the password when you install the key. Contribute will save your Key setting for the remaining times you use the program. If you need to install Contribute on a differnet computer, you'll need the Key and Key password for the initial install on that computer.

When the Key is installed, you'll be directed to the Connection to your website and will have the ability to edit your pages.

Making Changes

In Contribute, navigate to the page you want to edit, choose the Edit button at the top of the page, make your changes, then click Publish button to complete the upload. Be sure to publish all pages as soon as you've finished with revisions.

Contribute offers a thorough Tuturial under the Help section of the software. We strongly urge all Contrbute users to take the Tutorial before using the software.

Contribute offers the peace of mind of "roll backs" allowing you to revert to a previous edition of a page should you make a mistake that shouldn't have been published. Most Customers are set to have 3 rollback versions saved - if you need more, we can update the settings - please ask.
